Energy Market Update 8-1-2022

Electricity Markets

ISO-NE jumped again since last week, now over $.15 kwh. PJM and NYISO remain fairly stable since last week.

We experienced summer heat last week, and the energy prices reflect of this, as they deviate from normal.

Natural Gas Markets

July 2022 closed at $8.676. Going into next winter we see pricing remain flat. 2023 and 2024 have not moved much since previous weeks.

Natural Gas Inventory 

Working gas in storage was 2,416 Bcf as of Friday, July 22, 2022. According to EIA estimates this represents a net increase of 15 Bcf from the previous week.

 

The Baker Hughes exploration gas count remained the same at 157 this week. There are 104 additional rigs in operation than at this time one year ago.

Weather Update

The western part of the country as well as the eastern coast will see above normal temperatures whereas the East inward part of the country will see below normal temperatures.

New England winter natural gas prices top $40 as global LNG market tightens

inter gas prices in New England are hitting record highs in recent trading as the import-reliant region prepares to compete for LNG cargoes in a global market under pressure from strong demand in Europe .  

US became world’s biggest LNG exporter in first half of 2022: EIA

The US became the world leader in LNG exports during the first half of 2022 as high global prices, the European energy crisis and new US export facilities drove record shipments, the US Energy Information Administration said July 25.
